DYM Resources’ CEO Denis Varaksin has recently commented on Rosneft shipping base oils by sea in the new Lubes’n’Greases’ Lube report issue.
Russian oil major Rosneft started shipping its base oils to Europe with its own vessels on FOB terms. Before that the company was doing base oil exports mostly with railway.
The first batch of the products SN-150 and SN-500 has already been shipped from the port of Kavkaz. Rosneft mentioned in their news release that the vessel is 140 meters long and equipped with a system of pipelines for loading and unloading. This is supposed to increase Rosneft base oil exports to Europe. According to DYM Resources’ Denis Varaksin,
“Rosneft could increase its share of supplies in Europe if its refinery modernization program continues and quality improves.”
In 2021 Roseneft’s share of total Russian base oil exports from its refineries in Novokuibyshevsk and Angarsk was 23%. Both plants are going to be upgraded in the near future. Currently the refinery in Angarsk has capacity of 230,000 t/y and the one in Novokuybyshevsk 260,000 t/y.
According to DYM Resources, Rosneft was already offering base oils on FOB terms from Kavkaz port before, but it didn’t attract a lot of interest from buyers because of the quality and long delivery period. Base oils from Novokuibyshevsk refinery are not REACH-registered which means importers should provide their own REACH documents. REACH is an EU regulation, its abbreviation stands for Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals and is mandatory for all chemical imports into EU.
According to Lubes’n’Greases, Rosneft is also planning to expand their sea exports geography.
